International trade and foreign investment play a strategic role for companies and national economy. Its importance has given rise not only to a legal framework that establishes mandatory equal treatment of investors, but also adapts the country to international agreements in accordance with the World Trade Organization (WTO), DR-CAFTA for business development.
The Dominican Republic is a signatory of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), of the Agreement for the Free Trade Area of Goods and Services and of the DR-CAFTA Free Trade Agreement. The country also maintains a Partial Scope Free Trade Agreement with Panama and an Economic Association Agreement between the European Community and its Member Countries, as well as CARIFORO and its Member Countries (EPA). Likewise, it has signed agreements with Spain and Canada to avoid double taxation and has laws for tax incentives in tourism, free zones and others.
